Hwaam Art Platform — NE ARCHITECTS

NE Architects는 2024년에 설립된, 서울 기반의 건축가 그룹이다.
NE는 ‘느헤미야(Nehemiah)’ 라는 이름에서 출발해,
도시와 공동체를 형성하는 과정 속에서 건축이 수행할 수 있는 역할에 주목한다.

우리는 건축을 단일한 오브제를 넘어,
데이터·사회·도시·공간이 유기적으로 관계 맺는 촉매로 바라본다.
건축 공간의 상품성과 예술성을 동시에 탐구하며,
근대적 건축 어휘로 조직된 공간의 현대적 활용 가능성을 지속적으로 고민한다.
또한 건축을 드로잉, 전시, 출판 등 다양한 매체로 확장하며 실천하고 있다.

We imagined the site as a “village.” Rather than pursuing the form of a single, finished building, we aimed to compose spaces where interior and exterior conditions are organically connected within a framework woven by walls and paths. We first planned an alleyway that runs through the site. By linking the adjacent road to the embankment path leading to the Sogeumgang River, we improved accessibility, and placed an outdoor exhibition area and parking at the corner of this connecting route.

우리는 대상지를 하나의 ‘마을’로 상상했다. 완성된 단일 건축물로서의 형태보다, 담장과 길로 엮인 조직 속에서 내부와 외부가 유기적으로 연결되는 공간을 구성하고자 했다. 먼저 대상지를 관통하는 골목길을 계획했다. 인접 도로와 소금강으로 이어지는 제방길을 연결해 대상지의 접근성을 높였으며, 이 연결 동선의 코너에는 실외 전시 공간과 주차 공간을 마련했다.

The lobby of the main exhibition hall was placed in direct contact with the alleyway, while the residential spaces were arranged more independently. Both volumes secure ample daylight from the south and are oriented to frame views of Mt. Gakhee to the north.

메인 전시실의 로비는 골목 길에 맞닿도록 배치하고, 주거 공간은 보다 독립적으로 구성했다. 두 볼륨 모두 남측에서 충분한 채광을 확보하는 동시에, 북측으로는 각희산의 전경을 담아내도록 계획했다.

The lobby and shared living room are interior spaces, yet they possess a character closer to the outdoors. These areas emphasize a perspectival visual axis and operate as platforms that connect architectural programs of different natures. Through this arrangement, the boundary between inside and outside becomes more ambiguous, encouraging a continuous spatial experience.

로비 공간과 공유거실 공간은 실내공간 이지만, 외부 공간에 가까운 성격을 갖는다. 이 공간들은 투시적 풍경축을 강조하며, 성격이 다른 건축 프로그램들을 연결하는 플랫폼으로 작동한다. 이러한 구성은 내부와 외부의 경계를 한층 모호하게 만들고, 연속적인 공간 경험을 유도한다.

This project began with a question: what conditions could enable art and culture to thrive more actively in this valley shaped by the Sogeumgang River? We considered it essential to enhance physical and visual access to nature through architecture. By conceiving the building not as a closed system but as an open one—continuously extending points where paths and sightlines intersect—we sought to reduce the architectural presence and allow visitors to fully experience being immersed in the surrounding natural landscape.

이번 프로젝트는 소금강이 흐르는 이 계곡에서 예술·문화가 더 활성화될 수 있는 조건을 고민하는 데서 출발했다. 우리는 건축을 통해 자연과의 물리적·시각적 접근성을 높이는 것이 중요했다. 건물이 하나의 닫힌계가 아니라 열린계로서, 길과 시선이 교차하는 지점을 연속적으로 확장함으로써 건축의 존재감을 줄이고, 자연환경 속에 포함되는 경험을 온전히 누릴 수 있도록 했다.
